Small Business Support

The NSW Government established the Office of the NSW Small Business Commissioner to help small businesses across NSW.  It offers access to support at every stage of the business cycle, from start-up to succession planning and every step in between, including straightening out complex matters that could leave small business operators feeling isolated.

For example, the Small biz bus is an initiative that comes to regional areas and small businesses can make free appointments for advice and planning.

Small businesses frequently interact with local government and rely on positive interactions with local councils to allow for continued sustainability.

The Office of the NSW Small Business Commissioner, in partnership with the NSW Business Chamber, launched the Small Business Friendly Councils (SBFC) Program in September 2014.  The SBFC Program is an Australian first, giving councils in NSW the opportunity to be formally recognised as ‘Small Business Friendly’.

Currently, 67 local councils in NSW including Cessnock City Council have joined the Program demonstrating their commitment to their local small business community. This represents over 345,000 small businesses and over 50 per cent of all NSW small businesses.

Cessnock City Council is proud to be a Small Business Friendly Council, and offer services such as this Advance Cessnock City website to support and grow our small business base.
