Recovery process can seem overwhelming after a disaster, particularly if you don’t have an emergency plan in place.
The NSW Government are committed to building small business resilience by rolling out a range of resources to provide support and assistance to disaster affected businesses.
NSW Small Business Commissioner has released a step by step guide for small businesses who have been impacted, either directly or indirectly, by recent natural disasters.
Get Back to Business – a guide to recovering from disaster outlines how small businesses can recover and get back on their feet after being hit by recent devastation.
The resource provides helpful and supportive information on the five phases of disaster recovery along with action checklists to assist small businesses to work through the recovery phases;

1. Monitor and Respond
2. Early recovery
3. Midterm recovery
4. Long term recovery
5. Building Back Better

These stages will promote the importance of being aware and taking appropriate action in the event of a disaster, taking advantage of help on offer, communicate and connect within the community, assisting with the transition out of recovery and into ‘business as usual’ and driving actions from lessons learned.
