Setsuko Ogishi has been creating original and captivating handmade glass art pieces for 30 years.

Setsuko says she’s one of the few women glassblowers in Australia, but she believes it gives her an advantage.

“In physical structure I am the smallest. However, I do have an important advantage and uniqueness – I have a woman’s eye,” says the diminutive artisan.

“This is why delicacy, softness and simplicity are always present in my work.”

Setsuko has taken her art and applied it to a new medium.  She intertwines ashes in a glass-blown creation resulting in a work of art to hold precious memories. Through Glass Memorial, clients can have a beautiful and enduring monument of a loved one, a friend or a pet.

“The beauty and kindness of their being will be embodied inside the glass, so their memory can stay with you forever,” says Setsuko.

Setsuko says the strong and proud history of her business, mixed with an enduring passion for creation, gives her clients the confidence to allow her to honour their memories.

“With thirty years in the glassmaking business we have established a reputation of experience and reliability.  We create Glass Memorials with great care.”

Setsuko says doing business in the Cessnock region has many advantages, including its central location and easy access to major transport links.Untitled design(2)

“We have wide opportunity because of our location. Close to Sydney and Newcastle -it’s even easy to come from Gold coast and Melbourne by air. It is a growing population and economy in Cessnock and surrounding areas,” she says.

A strong and supportive business community and active chamber of commerce also bring benefits.

“We are surrounded by a great business community.  We work with Lovedale Chamber of Commerce and participate in joint events like the Lovedale Art Festival,” she says.

“We are also supported by referrals from other business, and us to them, sharing information and education about the region’s products.”

In addition to glass art, Setsuko Ogishi Art Glass Studio offers a range of hands-on experiences including glassblowing lessons and kite making.  For those who just want to witness art in motion, glassblowing viewing sessions are also available.

The future remains creative and vibrant for Setsuko, who will continue to deliver unique products of the highest quality, backed by reliable service.

“I keep my passion in glass, and will keep creating beautiful glass items.”
