The boost to the local economy by events is worth millions of dollars. We can now determine just how much is generated for any event held in the Singleton or Cessnock LGAs.

Both Singleton and Cessnock Councils have the ability to undertake economic modelling of events that provide many benefits including:

  1. Event holders can measure their Return on Investment and in turn can assist in supporting continual improvement, increased awareness of market needs and supporting evidence to source external funding.
  2. Councils can utilise the information to make critical economic development decisions to support business growth and investment as well as the ability to seek external funding.
  3. Hunter Valley Wine and Tourism Alliance and Chambers of Commerce can gain critical regional data to support applications for external funding for tourism and other projects.

Cessnock City hosted Samurai Blue Honda-wombat

The Japan National Football Team visited Cessnock in January 2015.

An example of the economic benefits from an event is the Asian Cup visit by the Japanese and Auckland football teams in 2015 and the Cessnock City Charity Match. The visit and charity match had a direct boost to the economy of $2.25million, with further flow on effects of $1.318million, resulting in a total boost to the local economy of $3.568million.

Cessnock City Council’s Economic Development Manager, Jane Holdsworth says it is a simple process to gain the information for any business or community group hosting events.

“Event Managers just need to access the forms available, fill in the few critical details required for the economic modelling and provide the completed form back to either Singleton Council or Cessnock City Council, and receive a report back,” she said.

To Access the Form:
As economic data is available at the local government area level, the form you choose will depend on whether the street address of the event is located in Cessnock local government area or Singleton local government area.
