The Australian Government established the Disaster Ready Fund (DRF) to help communities protect themselves from natural hazards across Australia.
The DRF invests in disaster mitigation projects, targeting infrastructure and systemic disaster risk reduction to address a range of natural hazards, including extreme weather and geological events.
Key objectives of the program are to:
- Enhance understanding of natural disaster impacts as a step toward reducing future risks.
- Strengthen resilience, adaptive capacity, and preparedness of governments, community services, and affected communities to minimize disaster impacts.
- Lower exposure to risks, harm, and severity from natural hazards, easing recovery efforts for governments and vulnerable communities.
