In September, businesses from throughout the Hunter Region were acknowledged and recognised at the Hunter Region Business Excellence Awards evening held at Club Maitland City in Rutherford.

The Awards are delivered to each year by the Hunter Region Business Enterprise Centre at Kurri Kurri.

Hunter Region BEC’s Manager Kerry Hallett commented on the quality of the business nominations.

“The standard of applications was exceptional, and testament to the amazing quality of the businesses in our region.”

Around 200 nominations were received for the 2016 awards. With 67 finalists, the judges really had their work cut out for them.

“We would have loved all of our finalists to have received an award but unfortunately there can only be one winner”.

The spectacular and unique trophies for the awards are handmade by the very talented Setsuko of Ogishi Glass based in Rothbury.

Many of the evening’s big winners hailed from our own backyard in Cessnock LGA:

Taste of the Country in Pokolbin won the trophy for Hospitality and Tourism as well as Business of the Year.
