NSW Liquor Law Changes

From 1 March 2025, restaurants and small bars selling takeaway or home-delivered liquor must have a Takeaway Sales Authorisation (TSA). The current regulatory exemption ends on 28 February 2025.

What This Means:

  • Small Bars can sell limited liquor with a genuine takeaway meal or house-made cocktails in sealed containers (cocktails don’t require a meal).
  • Restaurants can sell limited liquor with a genuine takeaway meal, including wine, beer, cider, RTDs, and house-made cocktails (up to 1L).

If offering same-day delivery, venues must comply with NSW alcohol delivery laws, including RSAT training and data reporting.

Next Steps:

Restaurants and small bars must apply for a TSA to continue takeaway liquor sales. For more details or to apply, visit the NSW Small Bar License here or On-Premises Licence webpage here.
