TONY CHADWICK

Economic Development and Tourism Manager

Tony is an experienced performance driven leader with over 13 years’ management experience in both public (Defence and Local Government) and private sectors.

Tony’s purpose is to develop the strategic direction for Council with regard to the Greater Cessnock Economic Development Strategy (Job’s Strategy), the Hunter Valley Destination Management Plan and Hunter Valley Visitor Information Centre Business Plan. Being driven by continual improvement through collaboration and innovation opportunities, Tony engages with Business Chambers, Tourist Associations and Council teams to solve problems, complete projects and deliver programs that provide community benefit, grow jobs and increase output.

Tony has worked in Defence Industries for 23 years in technical and engineering roles, delivered multimillion-dollar projects as a project manager and attracted large amounts of grant funding to complete community infrastructure projects. Tony holds a Bachelor of Business (Economics Major), Graduate Certificate in Project Management, Diploma of Electrical Engineering and a Diploma of Aviation Management.

Tony has expertise in business case writing, economic assessment and evaluation, grant writing, policy development, team management and project delivery. Prior to working at Cessnock City Council, Tony worked as the Strategy and Engagement Manager at Singleton Council, Project Manager at Boeing Defence Australia and Maintenance Manager with the Australian Airforce. Tony has a proven ability in develop strategies, attracting funding and delivering projects that achieve real outcomes for business and the community.

ALENA POPLE

Economic Development Officer 


Alena is a highly accomplished Economic Development Officer with a strong track record in creating economic opportunities and contributing to strategic initiatives for economic growth. She plays a pivotal role in delivering the Economic Growth Agenda, Jobs strategy, and spearheaded the research and development of the Hunter Valley Destination Management Plan 2022-2030.

With a Bachelor's degree in Social Science (Recreation & Tourism) and over 20 years of professional experience in wine and tourism marketing, Alena brings a wealth of knowledge to her role. She possesses 10 years of exceptional leadership experience, honed through her tenure at esteemed organisations such as the Hunter Valley Wine & Tourism Association and Roche Group.

Alena has consistently demonstrated her expertise in devising and executing highly successful B2C Marketing campaigns. She has a proven record of driving effective multi-channel marketing campaigns, including television commercials, online ticketing and website promotions, SEO, social media, eNewsletters, trade listings, sales to groups and corporates, and noteworthy public relations campaigns. Notably, Alena has been instrumental in conceptualising and implementing events that have had a profound positive impact on the entire Hunter Valley region, such as Snow Time in the Gardens.

With a keen aptitude for data research and analysis, Alena is proficient in leveraging this skill set to secure and manage corporate sponsorships and grants for the betterment of the local community and businesses within the Cessnock Local Government Area. Her proactive approach to acquiring funding has yielded significant results, fostering growth and development within the area.

Alena has successfully operated her own small business and generously volunteered as a Management Committee Member of Branxton Preschool for six years. Her experience in the Early Childhood Education Industry and her remarkable grant application abilities resulted in securing over $600,000 in grants, enabling the expansion of the preschool to the benefit of the Branxton community.

Alena derives immense satisfaction from assisting and guiding both new and established businesses. She is a skilled presenter, frequently delivering engaging presentations to share vital data and trends. Moreover, Alena has organised numerous familiarisations of the area, hosting visiting journalists, Travel Agents, and film crews, while also serving as a reliable contact officer for film-related activities in the region.

KATE FINCK

Economic Development Digital Officer

Kate is a dedicated professional with a passion for supporting local small business. With a double Bachelor's degree in Commerce with a major in Economics and Business with a distinction, majoring in Tourism and Events, and Marketing she combines her academic expertise with real-world experience to make a positive impact on her community.

Kate's career revolves around helping local businesses thrive. Her role is instrumental in assisting them to stay informed and well-prepared in a rapidly evolving market. She's known for her exceptional ability to scour, source, and compile industry updates and training opportunities, ensuring that local businesses have access to valuable resources without the hassle.

One of Kate's standout achievements is her event coordination experience, where she demonstrated her exceptional organisational skills and creativity. Her most recent accomplishment was the successful "Our Bushland Festival," a testament to her ability to bring the community together and create memorable experiences.

With her extensive academic background, passion for local business support, and event coordination expertise, Kate is a well-rounded professional dedicated to making a difference and fostering success in her community's business landscape. Her commitment to facilitating growth and her creative event planning talents make her a valued asset in her field. Our economic development and tourism team also includes the staff of the hunter valley visitor information centre.

Our visitor centre staff adore our region and love providing first class visitor services to both holiday makers and locals.
