Calais Estate in Palmers Lane Pokolbin, is a family owned and operated boutique winery set in a picturesque vineyard. It features a cellar door, The Verandah Restaurant and Come What May; a homeware and gift shop.
It is an award winning winery that boasts one of the largest collections of boutique wines in the Hunter valley. The range consists of traditional wines as well as more rare varietals, ensuring there is something for everyone’s palate.
The cellar door is located in the charming colonial-style building built from convict cut bricks and solid timber bridging beams. They offer wine tastings every day and features everything from classic wine varieties, to a range of hand crafted sparkling wines in the French traditional method, unusual wine styles and even apple ciders and balsamic vinegar.
Their cellar door was awarded the ‘Best Cellar Door’ in the Lower Hunter Business Awards for five consecutive years.
Calais hosts a monthly long lunch where you make your own sparkling wines before enjoying a 5 course meal with matched wines. They also host wine experiences for large conference groups.
You can purchase one of their gourmet picnic packs from the cellar door, a light meal for two that you can enjoy on the property or take back to your accommodation at the end of a long day of wine tasting.
Come What May
If you wander down the narrow sandstone hallway you’ll discover the gorgeous little homeware and gift shop, Come What May, which specialises in the unique, handmade and vintage.

Or step upstairs to the sweeping verandah which is home to the Verandah Restaurant. The Verandah Restaurant has something for everyone. Sweeping views over the vineyards, Brokenback range and the Estate. They have all weather dining out on the verandah or inside by the fireplace on those cold winter nights.
