Albert says the Cessnock area has a rich history in commercial sandstone quarrying, and although it has diminished in recent years he thinks with the right support, the industry has great potential.

What you may not know about Wollombi Sandstone is that they have looked after and have extensively been engaged in restoration works on the convict built ‘Old Great North Road’.

They remarkably restored stretches of the famous route using the traditional convict stone pick axe.

The team have also worked on several heritage buildings within the region which resulted in receiving accolades at the Australian Sandstone Architectural Awards for Best Restoration Project of the St Alban’s Church, Muswellbrook.
