Low Waste Dinner - Expression of Interest

Less Is Mrore

Cessnock Council has partnered with OZHarvest Newcastle and are seeking to partner with a local restaurant/café in the Cessnock Local government area to host a low waste dinner and a lunch in the first half of 2023.

The objectives of the low waste dining events are:

  • Allow local residents to enjoy a low waste, low cost meal locally;
  • Educate diners about food waste and give them practical advice about how they can reduce their contribution;
  • Utilise rescued food to make a delicious meal; and
  • Have a little fun!

We want this to be a fun, casual but educational experience. We need local restaurants/cafes that are happy to be part of the experience. You would need to have staff that feel comfortable talking to patrons about the meals and how it was prepared with minimal waste. You would also need staff willing to get creative with the rescued food provided by OzHarvest.

Cessnock Council has grant funding and will subsidise the cost of the meal for participants to ensure good participation. We can be flexible with the dates and times. Ideally, we would have different venues for the lunch and dinner – share the love!

If this idea has interest please email Council’s Environment & Waste team at environment@cessnock.nsw.gov.au or phone Karinda Stone on M:0417 172 801. Please leave a message or send a text if your call is not answered as we don’t want to miss you!
