Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP) has launched their new initiative, You’ve got this mate, to help combat men’s mental health.

You’ve got this mate is a dedicated website for rural men, young, old and everyone in between which provides action-focussed tips and information to help men reach their best possible mental health.

Designed in close consultation with RAMHP’s Rural Men’s Resource Advisory Group, the website is visually appealing to men, easy to navigate and comprises appropriate content, language and tone suitable to a rural male audience.

Sadly, every day in Australia, approximately six men die by suicide. Evidence indicates men are far less likely to seek help for mental health conditions than women.

It is recognised that a staggering proportion of suicides in regional NSW is within that demographic group.

Statistics show that remoteness is a major risk factor contributing to suicide, people in outer regional, remote, or very remote areas of Australia face more barriers to accessing health care than people living in major cities, making it harder for them to maintain good mental health.

A resource like You’ve got this mate provides important tips and information to help rural men reach their best possible mental health and is a useful tool for many though this stressful time.

Key features on the campaign website include:

  • lived experience videos
  • an interactive quiz
  • self-help information and commonly asked questions and answers
  • links to online help and telephone services
  • information about seeking professional help
  • information about helping others, and helping someone at risk of suicide; and
  • information about RAMHP including the RAMHP Coordinator postcode locator map

Visit You’ve got this mate for support, reliable information and resources.

If you or someone you know is showing signs or experiencing mental health conditions, it is important to take action and have the hard conversation, provide support and reliable information.

If you or someone else is in immediate danger call 000 or go to your nearest hospital emergency department.
