Business Profile

A home-based business has been awarded a $100 gift card for completing Cessnock City Council’s Business Capability Study.

Melissa Bernhorster, who is a registered educator with Port Stephen Family Day Care, was one of five winners announced this week.

The Greta-based mother of two started a family day care in her home four years ago after the birth of her first child. She was previously employed in a day care centre. Every day between 7.30am and 4.30pm, she opens her home to four children between the ages of two and five.

“I do love the flexibility of it,” she says about operating a home-based business. She says the industry is a good one to be in because there is always demand for day care and once you had a solid reputation, you had no issues filling places.

The Business Capability Study will provide governments and decision makers with a comprehensive profile of Cessnock City’s businesses, their capacity and needs.
