Employees can be a business’ greatest asset.  They can also often be the greatest cost.  Effective Human Resource management can be the difference between a vibrant and productive workforce and one that passes time simply going through the motions.#37426_fORMATTED_small

Currently studying a BA in Business Management, Sue’s extensive practical experience is complemented by a range of professional accreditations including:

•    Diploma of Management
•    Certified Return to Work Coordinator
•    Introduction to Psychology (Credit)
•    Workplace Meditator
•    Member of Australian Human Resources Institute (AHRI)
•    Member of Change Management Institute (CMI)

Sue says she founded Human Resources Matters two and a half years ago because she understands small and medium businesses don’t often have access to, or the ability to fund, a permanent in-house HR department.

“There’s a predominance of small and medium businesses in the Cessnock LGA that are missing out on the benefits structured HR policies and procedures can add to a workplace,” Sue says.

“It’s important to get the basics right, which is why our aim is to ensure the businesses we work with have core HR practices in place to facilitate sustainable productivity.”

Services on offer at Human Resource Matters extend beyond policies and procedures.  Sue can help businesses manage organisational development and change, undertake workplace investigations, and help plan for the future through workforce development.

Sue says the variation in her practice as well as the diversity of industry in the Cessnock LGA makes her work interesting.

“HR professionals are often called upon to help employers and employees mediate through challenging situations,” Sue says.

“But, we also get to help employers implement employee reward programs and strategies to build individual capacity as well as overall business capacity.  That’s a really positive aspect of HR because we get to work with people to help them achieve their business or career aspirations.

“The key to success is how you manage people to achieve the right outcomes.”
